FAQs

Do You Accept Insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider, but in some cases, you may be eligible to use your out-of-network insurance benefit for reimbursement. Some clients receive partial reimbursement from their insurance provider. If needed, I can provide you with a Superbill, which you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement, However, full payment is required at the time of each session.

How to Check Your Out-of-Network Benefits?

If you’re unsure about your out-of-network coverage, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask the following questions:

  • Do I have out-of-network coverage for outpatient behavioral health services?

Your insurance representative can confirm if your plan includes out-of-network reimbursement and provide details on coverage amounts. Some plans reimburse up to 70% of session fees, but coverage varies by plan.

In some cases, clients have successfully obtained reimbursement by demonstrating the medical necessity of trauma-informed therapy (e.g EMDR) and submitting a continued care request form. If your plan requires additional documentation, I can provide supporting materials—so be sure to advocate for your needs!

  • What is my deductible and how much of it has been met?

Insurance plans require you to meet a deductible before they reimburse out-of-network services. Ask whether out-of-network costs count toward your deductible.

  • What is the insurance company’s allowable rate for therapy?

Specifically, ask: “What is the allowable rate for a 90837 (60 minute therapy session)?”

  • What is the reimbursement rate for a therapy sessions?

Ask: “What percentage of the 90837 session fee will be reimbursed after my deductible is met?”

  • Do I need preauthorization?

Some insurance plans require prior approval before covering out-of-network therapy.

  • Can I use my Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) for therapy?

Most FSA and HSA plans cover therapy sessions. You can submit a claim through your FSA or HSA portal to receive reimbursement.

  • How do I submit a claim for reimbursement?

I provide Superbills, which you can download from your patient portal and submit directly to your insurance provider.

What is a Superbill?

A Superbill is a document that contains essential details about your therapy sessions, including:

  • Date of service

  • Type of service (e.g. 90837- 60 minute session)

  • Diagnosis code (if applicable)

  • Session fee

If you pay out-of-pocket for therapy, you can request a Superbill and submit it to your insurance provider to determine if you qualify for reimbursement.

How Can I Pay for my Session?

I accept credit cards, cash, check, and HSA cards. I use a HIPPA approved payment system called Ivy Pay.

What Does a First Session Look Like?

Before our first session, I will send you some important paperwork to fill out and review. This helps me get to know some initial information about you, which will allow us to make the most of our time together.

In the first session, I will ask you to share a bit about yourself and your background, including any relevant history. We will also discuss what has brought you into therapy, as well as what goals you’d like to work toward during our time together. This session is all about establishing a safe, supportive space for us to begin your healing journey.
